Nilfheim appears to have a natural advantage over Asgard: their general disregard for lives. They lash out at any weaknesses that they can find, mental, emotional, or physical.

Our own comrades seem much too merciful to survive these between-Trials times without appreciable damage.

I am not sure of my stance with Kain. He has expressed suspicions and annoyance(?), but I cannot rule out his personality as the cause.
